About the author Since 1985, George Skarbek has been the Director and principal consultant of his computer consulting company, Skarbek Consulting. He is regarded an expert in his field by his peers and has a wide knowledge of the industry in business and personal software, hardware and networks. An Electrical Engineer, George became interested in computers when the first mainframes appeared in 1964. Over the years he has worked on a number of operating systems, on many different LANs and programmed in several computer languages. In the State Electricity Commission he ran a departmental IT group consisting of many VAXs and networked PCs before starting his own computer consulting company. For the last 12 years he has been writing a Q & A column for the computer section of The Age. He also writes for the Sydney Morning Herald and the West Australian. He has written comprehensive articles for the Melbourne PC User Group’s award winning magazine, PC Update. For four years he has been president of Melbourne PC User Group, the largest user group in the world, with about 9,000 members.
